I was born in Czarny Dunajec, a small town located in the southernmost region of Poland called Podhale, next to the Tatra Mountains. The significance of my first hometown is underscored by the fact that at one time, the town was granted the status of a state/country by the Emperor of Austria.
Upon completion of the Elementary School in Czarny Dunajec, I continued my education at the regional High School of Nowy Targ. Within one week of my graduation in 1967, my mother, brother, and I, emigrated to the United States to rejoin our father in Chicago.
Upon arrival, I enrolled at the local “Loop College”. Two-years later, I transferred to the University of Illinois where I enrolled in the Department of Engineering and majored in Computer Science. During my time at the University of Illinois, I had the opportunity to work with the Polish scientist in the pursuit of programming and testing of advanced algorithms related to the optimization of drying and moistening processes. As a student, I also helped establish two organizations: The Polish American Student Association (PASA) and The Joseph Conrad Yacht Club (JCYC).
Interestingly enough, despite graduating in 1971 with an Engineering Degree with a major in Computer Science, I never worked a single day as an engineer. Instead, I took a position in the new and promising field of Data Processing (now known as Information Technologies) and never looked back.
My professional career in the Information Technologies evolved around three companies: Aldens, Inc., Zenith Radio Corporation, Inc., and the last 20 years of my career at Northern Trust Bank where I was involved with the implementation of the most advanced image-processing technologies of the day offered by the Teknekron Financial Services from Berkley, California.
For the past fifteen years, I have been involved in leadership positions with various American civic and Polish-American organizations. Those positions include the following:
I am the proud father of two beautiful daughters: Diana and Michelle.
Michelle received a Master of Architecture from IIT and Diana received her MBA from University of Loyola. Both daughters, Michelle with her husband Lee Greenberg and Diana with her husband Ryan Walsh, live in the Chicago area. A year ago, I also became a proud grandfather of Maddie and Sophie, who just recently celebrated their first birthdays.
In addition to the involvement in our Real Estate Management business, whenever time permits, I enjoy participating in the activities of the Chicago boating community and attending various presentations at the local Heartland Institute, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, or even attending lecture series at the Fermi Labs in Batavia. Also, I immensely enjoy traveling to faraway places such as India, China, or most recently to the Middle East: Israel (2nd time there), Jordan and Egypt. I complement my leisure time by reading books or going to the Chicago’s Lyric Opera. I made a promise to my Family that despite the hectic pace on the campaign trail, I will make every effort reasonable to spend quality time with them.
